■ IESF’s 2020 International Referee Academy comes to completion in Busan
2020 International Esports Referee Academy wrapped today as trainees completed the offline section of training. The list of graduates includes Huseyn Nasirli and Faraj Nasirli from Azerbaijan, Vorathep Theppongpech from Thailand.
After three days of intensive training, lectures and meetings, the trainees are ready to put their increased expertise to work. The trainees have enjoyed sharing the experience with other Esports career minded learners, enthusiastic trainers, and a hospitable host city. IESF, along with sponsors the City of Busan and the Busan IT Promotion Agency (BIPA), have provided an effective space for trainers and students alike to come together to broaden their Esports horizons.
Topics covered by the training staff, which consists of IESF President Colin Webster and veteran International Esports referees and Esports scholars Sungwon Lee and Seonghee Sinnara Bae, covered a broad range, including referee theory, ethics, the roles of the Esports referee, IESF rules and regulations, enforcement procedures, and technical classes about communication device settings.
During closing remarks, IESF President Colin Webster said, “IESF’s International Esports Referee Academy is an integral part to the development of Esports on an International level which will have long term benefits for all national federations reaching right down to grass roots thought the Referee Academy. IESF expects to see a greater number of players who have reached the end of their competitive life becoming involved as referees on an international level”.
IESF looks forward to welcoming the next group of trainees to IESF’s International Esports Referee Academy as we continue to work to develop the future for international Esports competition.

The International Esports Referee Academy is one of three pillars of the Global Esports R&D Center, located in Busan, South Korea. With the continued support of the City of Busan and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency (BIPA), the Global Esports R&D Center has been working to strengthen the Esports ecosystem and foster the evolution of the industry since 2018.
International Esports Referee Academy is dedicated to the development of standards and working to increase the expertise of national and international Esports referees in order to support the integrity of Esports, and to contribute to the success of athletes, teams, and events on the world stage.
