Łukasz Klimczyk joins IESF Board

Łukasz Klimczyk was elected as one of three new board members during the OGM at the 14th WE Championships in Bali. His experience in the Sports legislature has helped him build a career in esports, and as acting Vice President of the Esports Association of Poland he will focus his time towards the full recognition of esports in his country.

As part of our initiation ritual, we decided to ask Łukasz some questions about his experiences in the industry and plans for this year.

What is your personal motto?

“Probably I have two mottos and both refers to quotes from Bruce Lee:”

The only way to progress is to keep raising the bar. The only measure of success is the effort we put in to achieve it” and “Knowledge will give you power, but character respect.”

“Personally I truly believe that commitment and hard work are the key factors for success. I also fully agree that knowledge is a powerful tool, but in order to use it properly (wisely), you also need to have the right character features, which distinguish someone who is ‘smug’ from someone who is ‘respected’.”

Biggest challenge(s) that you’ve overcome in your professional career?

“In my professional work as a lawyer, I very often encounter challenges that we have to overcome on behalf of our clients.

These challenges – often extremely important from the perspective of our clients personal or professional lives – make it necessary to ensure a huge commitment on our part.

Although these challenges can be extremely stressful and require dedication, I personally find them extremely satisfying when they are completed successfully for the client.”

“One of the most recent such challenges was the case of a titled athlete, who was suspected of doping and thus prevented from participating in the upcoming World Championships. We had very little time (a few days) to appeal the decision and fight for our client to be able to take part in this competition. Ultimately, the case ended positively for him and gave me a lot of positive motivation.”

“Certainly, I know from my experience that, whatever the challenge, we should never give up or become discouraged prematurely, but rather do everything possible to face it.”

What are some of your goals for 2023?

“I can divide my goals for 2023 into those related to the law firm I run and my involvement in esports.

The goal within my activity for IESF as a Board member is to use my knowledge and experience in providing legal services to the sports industry within the IESF structures. As I said during the election speech to the Board, I strongly believe that my competence will contribute to the further development and professionalization of our Family which is one of my main goals for 2023.

Secondly, the goal within my activity for Esports Association Poland as a Vice President is to make an effort to achieve full recognition of esports in Poland.

Lastly, the goal within my activities at the law firm is to further develop it in terms of servicing the sports and esports community, and, if only time allows, to return to work on a legal monograph on anti-doping law, including aspects of pharmacological and technological doping in esports.”

Łukasz is ready for his role in the IESF Family and we’re glad to have someone like him on our team!
