E-sports to flake on at Taebaek City this Winter

December’s International e-Sports Federation general meeting and Opening of ‘2009 IeSF Challenge’

International standards on referee committee to be announced after the general meeting
150 players from 20 countries to participate at the e-sports competition

In December at Taebaek, Gangwon province, an international e-sports federation general meeting will take place for International e-Sports Federation(IeSF)’s discussion on current status and next schedules, and World e-Sports Competition will also take place, with participants from all around the world.

On 6th, IeSF(Chairman Kim Shin-bae) and Taebaek City have signed a promotional agreement at the Taebaek City Hall conference room, with participants including secretary-general of IeSF Oh Won-suk, Taebaek City’s Mayor Park Jong-gi, Taebaek Municipality chairman Kim Cheon-soo, O2 Resort president Uhm Jun-sup, and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Korea Creative Contents Agency.

Starting from 10th of December to 14th, the 5 days event ‘2009 IeSF Challenge’at O2 Resort will be sponsored by International e-Sports Federation(IeSF) and Korea Creative Contents Agency, and run by Taebaek City. Along with sponsorship from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, 9 European countries including 6 membership countries from Germany, Austria, Denmark and others with 3 junior membership countries including England, Spain, Bulgaria will participate. Also, 9 Asian countries including 3 membership countries from South Korea, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, and 6 junior membership countries including Japan, China, and Singapore with U.S. and South Africa all add up to 20 countries worldwide, bringing a total of 150 players.

One of the highlights of the 2009 International e-Sports Federation General Meeting includes the announcement of international standards related to ‘Referee Committee’which was researched and developed by clusters of various industries and universities. Starting off with the announcement, the International e-Sports Federation will provide international standards led by the federation, proceeding with research on players, approvals, entries, battle committee and more.

The 2009 IeSF Challenge will take place as a preliminary competition of IeSF in the name of Challenge, and plans to establish the world’s most prestigious e-Sports international committee and creating e-sports Olympics through expanding the size of the competition and corporation with each country’s associations and localities.

The IeSF has announced to strengthen the cooperating model of e-Sports among membership countries and nations, with expanding exchange of global e-Sports through 2009 General Meeting and games between nations. In addition, it expects to enhance South Korea’s stance as a homeland of e-Sports by global game culture events, lay grounds for domestic e-Sports entries’ globalization, and create economic and cultural value through e-sports that can provide a new growth engine for the new society.

Hosting the 2009 IeSF Challenge, Taebaek City will also raise awareness as an international city providing tourism and e-Sports, and expects to leap into an entertainment city where 21st century’s high value added revenues can be raised, with new adventures and dreams can be realized by setting basis for successful creation of e-City.
