The International e-Sport Federation (IeSF) holds the IeSF 2010 Euro Conference from 8 to 10 July at the Games Convention Online 2010 in Leipzig, Germany. 12 national eSport association representatives out of a current total of 15 members and other associate members take part in the conference. It is the first IeSF conference to be held in Europe.
In Europe, gaming and its related IT industry have been developed for some time now and with outstanding performances. Also, the gaming communities have been well organized across Europe, with a close network based on eSports and festival events.
The significance of holding the first IeSF conference in Germany is obvious. Germany has taken a leading role as a representative of European eSports, hosting international eSports tournaments as well as the biggest game and IT events, which have contributed to the advancement of eSports.
The vision of the International eSports Federation (IeSF) is to take eSports to the global level by handling global eSports standardization, IeSF tournaments and the eSports conference (symposium). IeSF is holding the first 2010 conference in Europe as part of its work in vitalizing continental eSports. At the conference, there will be discussion of current important issues in eSports, including: policies on countermeasures in response to the games ban law in Switzerland, intellectual property for eSports and international eSports standardization (referee committee, e-player committee).
Mr. Won Suk Oh, General Secretary of IeSF said, “It is honourable and meaningful to hold the first IeSF 2010 European Conference in Leipzig. eSport is very popular in Germany and in Europe. With the meeting in Europe we want to bring the member nations even closer together and discuss new strategies to further promote eSport in the entire world.”
Silvana Kuerschner, Strategy Director of the GCO, emphasizes the importance of the IeSF Conference in Leipzig. “Having the first European IeSF Conference in Leipzig shows the importance of the GCO for the games industry. By hosting the national final of the World Cyber Games and the IeSF Conference in one place, federation members and gamers can directly meet and learn from each other.”
