“This year will be a turning point for IeSF to be re-born as an international sport organization.”

At the press conference on February 11, 2010, Secretary General Oh suggested the main target of the federation for increase of its members and showed a hope to strengthen its status by means of e-sports related standard protocol.

As an international federation, IeSF was built up in August last year for the purpose of internalization of e-sports and has such member states as Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, the South Africa, etc, including Korea.

Mr. Oh said, “The more important thing anything else for internationalization of e-sports is ‘unity’,” stressing, “We will establish a basic framework for cooperative system by increasing member states.”

At the present, 15 member states are participating in IeSF. The federation is slated to add five (5) members this year and has a plan to make a positive recommendation to the United States, China, Japan, etc.

The organization is also planning to concentrate its capabilities on e-sports related standardization, as well.

He also mentioned, “The reason that FIFA or IOC had grown as the world best sport organization was that they reached the center of standardization,” adding, “If our country takes an initiative in suggesting standard protocol reflecting each member’s requirements, such an leading role will influence remarkably over internalization of e-sports as well as enhancement of the national e-sports status.”

Now IeSF has total five (5) steering committees; competitors, competitions, certification, events and referee committee are conducting activities mainly for international standardization of e-sports. This year it plans to accept feedback of standard protocol in a positive way through academic and industrial collaboration in order to suggest improved agenda.

Secretary General Oh argued, “It is true that it is not so easy to prepare e-sports standard protocol that is applicable worldwide,” adding, “However, we can make it if we will take an initiative in drafting and collecting members??opinions to increase its utilization.”

The federation is also planning to endeavor to settle down to a success of ‘IeSF Challenge’ held in Taebaek city last year. This year the event will be held in one of the cities among Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Busan.

He said, “We plans to designate a venue at last at the beginning of March in such a way that the brand of IeSF and the host city can provide a synergy effect.”

In conclusion, he said, “We will be supported from the government this year and concentrate on providing something profitable,” emphasizing, “Since reinforcement of IeSF is connected directly with internationalization of Korea contents, it is prerequisite to collaborate with the government.”
