South Korea did it again! After shocking the world with their surprise performance in TI4 SEA qualifiers, MVP Phoenix did another milestone by claiming the Asian championships after a convincing win against MSI-EvoGT in the recently concluded IeSF Asian Championships that was held in Cebu Philippines last September 12-14.
Prior to this, IeSF on its first day determined the 3 Philippine representatives to the grand finals. 5 teams from Luzon together with 5 teams from the south slugged it out in a 2 group’s single round robin match wherein top 2 from each group will then be competing in the playoffs to know which 3 teams will battle against the International teams.
The round robin matches turned out in favor of the favorites MSI-EvoGT and IAP in group A eliminating Julz and CNS, Arcanys 2, and Insight.ph while on the other bracket it was Arcanys and Mineski-Dota who went to play in the playoffs leaving Nube, Olympus Gods and Nonstop on the losing end.
It was hard fought playoffs for all 4 teams but unfortunately the heavyweight team IAP, or better known as Execration came up short and dropped Leaving Mineski-Dota, MSI, and Arcanys to play in the main event.
After the round robin action, Surprisingly it was the relatively unknown team from Indonesia, The Prime together with MSI-EvoGT who advances in the semis while on the other group it was MVP Phoenix which ironically were in the brink of elimination early in the group stage after a shocking lost to Mongolian Teams, The Mongols who advances together with Visayas Pride, Arcanys Gaming.
From there on, the Filipinos failed to defend their home turf and lost to the Koreans after an intense 3 game grand-finals series. Philippines which were represented by 3 teams, Mineski-Dota, Arcanys, and MSI were the top picks to win the tournament after International teams Johnny’s Revenge, MiTH-Trust and also MVP Phoenix failed to play well in the early stages of the tournament. Matter of fact, after the group stage battle only MVP.Phoenix together with the surprising team from Indonesia, The Prime were able to move forward in the playoffs together with PH’s Arcanys and MSI.
As the winners of the tournament, the Koreans bagged $5,000 followed by MSI with $3,000 and Arcanys Dota who placed 3rd.
