Today we are presenting the Saudi Esports Federation!
When did you founded the federation?
The Saudi Esports Federation was established in 2017 in order to help reshape the future of esports in Saudi Arabia.
Which games are most played in your country?
Across all frequencies, there are about 21.1 million gamers in Saudi Arabia, which is a huge number. Saudi Arabia has a big community of players for every game.
In which games/Esports do you have a representation?
FIFA, Overwatch, Tekken, CS:GO, and Call of Duty are the most popular and successful esports. We have Mosaad Aldossary in FIFA, the 2018 world champion and 2018 esports player of the year. As for Tekken, we have Sari Al-Jefri, the winner of the 10th Esports World Championship of the IeSF.
What is the average age of professional players in Saudi Arabia?
The average age of our professional players varies from title to title. The average age of our CS:GO players in the Saudi eLeague, our flagship esports tournament, is 23.2, and the average age of our Overwatch players is 20.
How would you describe in one word the state of Esports in your country?
Redefined.
How has the establishment of the federation helped Esports in your country?
A number of world-class national and international tournaments and events have been organized since the federation was established. These events have attracted investment from local private sector actors and helped open up opportunities for international developers in Saudi Arabia.
In what ways does the federation help Esports in your country?
Our mission at the federation has been to cultivate elite players and foster the gaming community and industry throughout Saudi Arabia, where the Esports scene has been redefined.
What are your future plans for the Federation?
We are heavily focused on developing Saudi-grown global Esports events. We also aim to establish a global gaming and Esports hub that contributes to 1% of Saudi GDP.
What is your federation’s biggest achievement?
Using gaming and esports as a force for good has been one of our largest accomplishments. We are extremely proud of being home to Gamers Without Borders, the world’s largest gaming and Esports charitable event. In both editions of the festival, $20 million was donated to UNICEF, GAVI the Vaccine Alliance, the International Medical Corps, and other international humanitarian aid organizations.
