Saudi Project Uniting Gamers Globally Against COVID-19

GAMERS WITHOUT BORDERS IS UNITING ESPORTS FANS AROUND THE WORLD

AS AMATEURS AND ELITE PLAYERS COME TOGETHER TO DONATE MORE THAN US$10MILLION TO COVID-19 RELIEF

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Esports fans around the world are coming together to fight COVID-19 through Gamers Without Borders: a seven-week long gaming series that will see more than US$10million donated to charities on the frontline in the battle against the virus.

Battling it out on the most thrilling titles in gaming, the world’s best gamers, teams, and franchises are going toe-to-toe in matches streamed across the globe.

At the finale of each tournament, the elite players who come out on top are winning a share of GWB’s mammoth US$10million prize fund, which will go directly to their choice of non-profit organizations leading the coronavirus fight.

To date, the initiative – which launched April 24 and runs through June 7 – has seen more than $2 million shared between charities combatting the spread of the virus, including the International Medical Corps, Direct Relief, Gavi and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre, with its International Elite players squaring off in the battlegrounds of PUBG MOBILE and the first round of Rainbow Six: Siege.

The charity fundraiser is also welcoming all gamers to get involved in thrilling live solo and team tournaments through its Global Community series, where players can bag prizes worth more than $1.3million while helping to save lives, stay safe and raise funds in a united effort. They are also being given the chance to donate to add even more funds to the charity giveaway.

GWB’s Global Community events include daily schedules of Marathons, Games Of The Week and free-running play-as-you-go tournaments that gamers of all skill levels are invited to enjoy. The Marathons are running on games including FIFA20, Fortnite, and Clash Royale, while Games Of The Week tournaments are being held on titles such as Overwatch and Apex Legends, ensuring there is something for every type of gamer.

It has already hosted more than 10,000 gamers based across the world and has attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers – a number set to reach well into the millions as its tournaments progress.

He stated, “It is exciting to see so many gamers unite and support the global fight against COVID-19. We are two weeks in and the action has been incredible for both players and viewers. And it will only get better! Gamers Without Borders is a response to the global COVID-19 crisis where we want to connect the border-less community of gamers competing to donate $10million to a dozen international charities leading the fight against COVID-19. With that being the case, we wanted to tailor this initiative, not to local or regional benefit, but instead, we wanted to instill a sense of global unity to a global cause. Our Global Community schedule is open to all gamers, where worries about skill level or ability can be left at the door. Gamers Without Borders is for everybody, and the diversity of those registering and playing on the tournament’s first day already really emphasizes that point. After so much planning, we are delighted to be hosting such an event that has generated such passionate backing from gamers across the world.”
