The Bronze Medal Match in the Tekken 7 tournament saw Finland’s “Jopelix” battle
“Doujin” from the Philippines in the best of 9 format. The Philippine’s “Doujin” got off to a quick start, taking the first two games in convincing fashion. The athletes then traded victories over the next 5 games as Finland made the score 2-1, then China extended to 3-1, then 3-2, 4-2, and 4-3. “Doujin” was finally able to put it away in the 8th game, winning the bronze medal with a 5-3 victory.
The Tekken 7 Finals gave us a dream match-up featuring perhaps the greatest rivalry in esports— Japan versus host country South Korea. Japan’s “Take” faced off against Korea’s world-famous Tekken athlete “Knee”, the world’s number one ranked Tekken athlete. It was the final match of the 11th Esports World Championship Seoul 2019 and it promised not to disappoint, especially when both athletes elected to play as the character “Steve” for the duration of the final match.
Things looked grim for the Korean champion early. After “Knee” took the first game 3 rounds to 1, Japan’s “Take” reeled off three consecutive victories to go up 3 games to 1 in the best of 9 final, winning 9 rounds to 4 during that stretch.
That’s when the host nation’s “Knee” turned it on. Like the champion he is, “Knee” won the next 4 games by a combined score of 12 rounds to 3 to win a decisive and impressive 5-3 victory and a gold medal for the home crowd, lifting the Korean flag high to bring the 11th Esports World Championship Seoul 2019 to a dramatic and fitting close.
